1.5 out of 5

The initial rating for this film was two out of five.

mukhauta posterThe only thing one could know about this film before it was released was that it had many characters. All played by people an average Nepali film viewer would recognize. The poster shows the same, and even the trailer of this film does nothing to hint about what the film’s story is actually about. It just looked like a bunch of characters talking. So, with a heart heavy with uncertainty, i went to the theater to watch this film without any prior knowledge about the content of this film. But hey, it had a good cast of actors, and i thought all these people couldn’t go wrong. I was wrong.

The film’s story begins in the seventies, i guess. When there was an ongoing “Hippie Culture”. It tells us about how a random guy is turned into a ruthless but an honorable king-pin of Thamel, Mr D (Sunil Thapa). Then the story skips time and shows us about the story that is ongoing now. The king-pin has a son, played by Saugat Malla (Ravi). He is a brat and is also a partial cocaine snorter. Then there is Arpan Thapa, named Pundit. He happens to be the main henchman of Mr D (i.e Sunil Thapa). The other party is of Chepang Lama (Robin Tamang). Who co-works with Manish (Rajesh Hamal). They are the new  tag-team gangsters in Thamel who are like rivals to the other Mr D or the “old School” team.

The whole story is then about the game of thrones they all play for the emptiness the dying Mr D would leave behind. Ravi (Saugat) wants his dad’s position while his dad wants Pundit (arpan) to take his place, as he is more responsible . Then on the other side are the two tag team duo, Manish and Chepang who wants Mr D dead which would make them the most powerful gangsters in Thamel. Then these character play for power adopting strategies and tricks.

This film was directed by Arpan Thapa, who is also the protagonist, maybe. Arpan Thapa firstly needs to make a couple of short films and see if he has it in him or not. The best thing he has done to this film is that his performance is a little better than the rest. He is a good actor, and i also found out that Rajesh Hamal, the greatest superstar ever to be born on this part of the world cannot even fake a laugh properly. Robin Tamang should loose that accent of his in order to be believable as a Nepali gangster. Audiences love Dayayang. Infact they love him so much that whatever he says is enough to break out a chain of laughter from the audience. I wont talk much about the female characters in this film because they have no importance. Mr Arpan Thapa doesnt think that females think about anything, besides finding their knight in shining armour and dedicating their lives for their respected males.

And Sunil Shetty called, he says he wants his acting back.

The film after the first hour is like one of those Sunil Shetty films of the nineties.  Where he is a righteous man, and  either his sister or his girlfriend gets raped by a couple of goons and he goes on a killing frenzy, all battered and bruised. Arpan Thapa does what Sunil Shetty did in most of his films. He gets badly injured and he is in rage, his head shivers in anger and his saliva drips from his mouth. But he is the one who acts the best in this film, lets not forget that.
This film has nothing spectacular about it. Neither does it have a good story nor does it have any commendable performances. Nothing, not even at one point did i think that a scene was good or anything. nothing. It seemed that this film was made by a twelve year old boy, with a fairly good crew and a good amount of money. Though watching this film was a waste of my time and money, I wont tell anyone to not watch this film. Go watch it because it is a democratic country and anyone can make a film and no one would stop anyone from watching.

  1. I was priorily amazed by the story with such variety of known actors. But it was a nice story, with not-so-new concept. The presentation well,, an obscure ending, a conspicuous thrill and a classy beginning. And as commended,, the laugh of Rajesh Hamal, it was overdone.
Well, I loved the movie as a whole,, one may admire the appealing roles played by Nisha, Saugat and Arpan. It was better class of a movie than those early action packed bollyhood movies. And I would expect more if Mukhauta-2 is to be released anytime soon.
